Operating System & recovery

Most of the webbooks runs a custom version of linux with a graphical user interface (GUI) on top. The 3k Razorbook 400 can be bought with Windows CE instead. miniwebbook.com assumes you have the linux version.

Software Reset

If you have software problems you can do a software reset. Press Enter a few times at the boot up screen and restart your machine.

Hardware Reset

If you have continued problems you can do a factory hardware reset. Press (hear the click and hold for 10s) the reset button on the bottom of the laptop. You will need a paper clip or similar. The reset button is the small silver hole near the battery cover and is punctured when you push the clip in. Then restart your machine.

Software Recovery

Your manufacturer may have a recovery file on its website:
CnM (also for additional drivers and applications)
Elonex

The strictly unofficial Elonex One email group has a step by step guide. Particularly note:
  • I've only found the recovery image to load properly from an SD card - this is probably because SD cards are usually formatted in FAT  format (also known as FAT16) rather than FAT32 or anything else that  most memory sticks are usually formatted to - so find and if necessary  format an SD card of at least 512MB.
  • Use a zip file extraction program to copy the "uImage" and "Recovery.rec" files from inside the zip file to the top level  directory of the FAT16 SD card - N.B. I found that I couldn't use "Sky  Tar" on the ONEt itself for this job as it thinks the zip file is in an invalid format - one of the two archiver programs on my Linux desktop also had the same problem, so you currently need a non-ONEt machine to do this.
  • Switch on the ONEt and as soon as it shows the start up screen that says Elonex with red dots below and has a flashing white cursor top left, press and hold the F3 key on the keyboard.
